The Long and Short of the Indiana General Assembly

The Indiana General Assembly is gearing up for a new session in early 2020. As a part-time citizen legislature, Indiana lawmakers only meet for part of the year. Even-numbed years are “short” sessions running until mid-March and odd-numbered years are “long” sessions running until the end of April, which allows time for the passage of a new 2-year budget.

The 2020 Legislative Session Organization Day took place on November 19, at which time new and returning General Assembly members were sworn in for the 2020 legislative session. This year four new senators join the Indiana Senate Republicans Caucus, including Sens. Justin Busch (R-Fort Wayne), Chris Garten (R-Charlestown), Mike Gaskill (R-Pendleton) and Linda Rogers (R-Granger).

The ”Find Your Legislator” link is now active for the 2020 Session, so you can enter your home address to find out who your legislators are in the House and Senate.

The General Assembly will get to work on Monday, January 6.

Currently, the members of the House and Senate are getting organized and filing their bills for 2020. Governor Holcomb has released his 2020 Next Level Agenda providing guidance to the legislature for the coming session. VGTs for Indiana is working to show legislators that legalizing VGTs is essential for small businesses across Indiana and would be a good source of revenue for the State.
